Overview
Custom Metrics allow you to create your own KPIs and calculations using connected data sources.
You can use custom metrics to:
-
Build blended KPIs
-
Combine metrics across platforms
-
Create business-specific target KPIs or goals
-
Standardize reporting across dashboards
Accessing Create Custom Metrics
Steps
-
Navigate to Performance Reports
-
Click Custom Metrics
-
Create New Metric

Configure Metric Details
The first section allows you to define the metric basics.
Title
Enter a name for your custom metric. Use clear and descriptive names so the metric is easy to identify in reports.
Description
Add an optional description explaining:
-
What the metric measures
-
How it should be used
-
Any formula logic or limitations

Steps
-
Click the Search source field
-
Enter the source name
-
Select the required source

Select Entry Type
The Entry Type determines how the metric is created.
Available Entry Types
-
Formula - Use the Formula Builder to create calculated metrics using mathematical operations.
-
Custom User Metric - Create a metric using predefined fields and dimensions.

Select Metric Type
The Metric Type controls how values are stored and displayed.
Available Metric Types
-
Text - Stores text-based values.
-
Number - Stores numeric values.
-
Percent - Displays values as percentages.

Formula Entry Type
Selecting Formula opens the Formula Builder interface.
Select a Dimension
Choose the reporting level for the metric.
Available Dimensions (Updates with the source(s) selected)
Available dimensions may include:
-
Account
-
AdSet
-
Ads
-
Audience
-
Campaign
The selected dimension determines where the metric can be used.w

Attribute Filters
Attribute Filters allow you to refine and control the data included in your custom metric or report.
You can use filters to create targeted calculations based on specific conditions such as campaign names, platforms, audiences, locations, or performance criteria.
Adding a Filter
Steps
-
Select an Attribute
-
Choose an Operator
-
Enter a Value
-
Click Add Condition to include additional rules

Add Filter Groups
Use Add Group to create separate filter groups with AND/OR logic for more advanced filtering scenarios.
Allow Decimal Values
Enable this option if the metric should support decimal numbers.
Example Use Cases
-
ROAS
-
CPA
-
Conversion Rate
-
CTR
Reverse Heatmap Direction
Enable this option when lower values represent better performance.
Example Metrics
-
CPA
-
CPM
-
Cost Per Conversion
This helps ensure dashboard heatmaps display colors correctly.

Formula Builder
The Formula Builder allows you to combine metrics and operators to create calculations.
Available Operators
Supported operators include:
text, +, -, *, /, (, ),
Building a Formula
Steps
-
Select a metric from the metric list
-
Add mathematical operators
-
Build the formula step by step
-
Review the Formula Preview section
-
Save the metric
Formula Preview
The Formula Preview section displays the active formula before saving.
Use this section to verify:
-
Metric order
-
Operators
-
Formula structure

Example Formula
Blended ROAS
(Total Revenue) / (Total Ad Spend)
CPA Formula
(Total Ad Spend) / (Conversions)
CTR Formula
(Clicks / Impressions) * 100
Footer Expression
Footer Expressions define how totals are aggregated in reports.
Available Footer Expressions
Sum
Adds all values together.
Weighted Average
Calculates averages based on weighting logic.
Use Weighted Average carefully for rate-based metrics.
Save the Metric
Once configuration is complete:
-
Review the formula and settings
-
Verify dimensions and metric type
-
Click Save
The metric will then become available across reports and dashboards.
Best Practices
-
Use consistent naming conventions
-
Keep formulas simple where possible
-
Validate formulas before saving
-
Use descriptions to document logic
-
Avoid duplicate metrics with similar names
Troubleshooting
Entry Type Is Required
Ensure an Entry Type has been selected before saving.
